Have you ever started something new? Everyone should be putting their hand up. New things are part of life, and having a game plan to deal with changes can make it easier. With the right tips and God by your side, you can conquer feelings of anxiety and fear that come with these changes. I am going through a big change right now: Middle School. I am going to a new school and I’m not a fan of my teachers. At first, I felt like I had the worst year ever ahead of me. I was worried sick. I didn’t know what to do. My mom and dad told me these helpful hints:
- Give yourself a day to worry: Worrying is a natural thing for humans. Don’t spend all your time worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet, but do set aside a day where you can just worry. Then tell yourself after that, “ No more worry!” The Bible says, “ Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. “ 1 Peter 5:7
- Find the good in everything: I felt there was nothing good about my situation but soon after I found out my best friend was in my homeroom. We could face this together. Find one good thing about your situation, it can change your perspective completely.
- Trust God: One of the most important things to do is just have total trust in God. You have to realize that God is with you every step of the way. God will protect and strengthen you through whatever your going through. The Bible says, “Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I, your God have a firm grip on you and I’m not letting go.” Isaiah 41:10-13
- Be happy: Having a happy face through a situation can help tremendously. What’s it going to do for you moping around all the time? People will notice that about you. The Bible states, “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:13
4 tips later…I guess what I’m trying say is starting something new isn’t really that scary. I wish the best of luck for you when you’re starting something new but just remember these tips and that God is always with you.
